Since 1989, students on the Transition To Work Course have been taking photographs. Not just any photograph; they must choose exactly where in Bradford to take the photograph, plan what to wear, who else might be in the photograph and what they might be doing. They decide which of the negatives to use and learn how to work in the darkroom so they can do the technical work themselves. They use photography to convey something about themselves; their identity.

The creativity, quality and honesty of the resulting photographs is remarkable and has produced a unique record of young people in Bradford in the 1990s. In the year 2000 the work progressed even further with the Picture of Bradford website which has seen the students' work admired by people worldwide.
